GORILLA: NEW FEARS FOR THE EXTINCTION OF THE GORILLA IN CENTRAL AFRICA.

Secondo un rapporto delle Nazioni Unite una serie di eventi sta mettendo a dura prova la sopravvivenza dei gorilla in Africa centrale: disboscamento illegale, commercio di carne selvatica,  commercio di carbone e un nuovo ceppo del virus Ebola potrebbe guidare i gorilla all' estinzione in Africa centrale in appena 15 anni.

IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
previous assessments by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has predicted that only 10 percent of the habitat of the gorillas would have remained undisturbed since 2032. UNEP now says that the date was too optimistic, and could lose their gorilla habitat at all in just one decade. The survival of the gorillas is "especially critical in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)," the report said, due to ongoing conflicts and roaming militias, which are responsible for most of the illegal trade in the area.

) says that previous assessments had not provided an incredible increase in illegal logging in the Congo Basin, or any increase in the mining sector will weaken the taboo against eating meat gorilla.
The report contains recommendations, including strengthening the role of the UN mission in DRC to ensure "full control of border crossings by any means necessary, which would greatly reduce the power of the militia groups who use the illegal trade in border crossings to fund their activities.
The only good news in the report is the gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei), one of the rarest species of primates, have not been hunted by the militia because of their habitat particularly isolated. But the park rangers who protect the mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park have recently seen a dramatic increase in poaching of many other species, including elephants, buffalo and lion.
